In these Terms and Conditions, “we”, “us” and “our” refers to Carpet Mill. “You” and “your” refers to the customer placing an order with us.
2. Orders
When you place an order with Carpet Mill, it is your responsibility to check that all details are correct, including the product, colour, quantity, measurements, fitting requirements, delivery details and any additional services requested.
Orders may include goods that are cut to size, specially ordered, made to measure, or ordered from an outside supplier. Once goods have been cut, ordered, reserved or allocated to your order, cancellation rights may be limited.
Please make sure you read your sales order carefully before signing or paying a deposit.
3. Quotes and estimates
Any quote or estimate we provide is based on the information available at the time.
Quotes may change if:
- Measurements are incorrect or incomplete
- Additional work is required
- Subfloor issues are discovered
- Extra materials are needed
- Access issues affect fitting or delivery
- Furniture moving, uplift, disposal or other additional services are requested
We will let you know where possible if any additional costs apply.
4. Prices and payment
The price shown on your sales order or invoice is the price agreed at the time of order, unless changes are made afterwards.
Any outstanding balance must be paid in full before delivery, collection or fitting, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
We reserve the right to withhold delivery, collection or fitting until the full balance has been paid.
If payment is not made when due, we may charge interest on overdue amounts where permitted by law.
5. Deposits
Deposits are not refundable, except at the discretion of Carpet Mill or where required by law.
If goods have been cut, ordered, reserved or allocated to your order, your deposit may be retained to cover costs already incurred.
Where a deposit has been paid, the remaining balance must be paid before delivery, collection or fitting.
6. Cancellations
Orders cannot usually be cancelled once goods have been cut, specially ordered, reserved, received from a supplier, or prepared for your order.
If an order is cancelled after goods have been cut from a roll or received from an outside supplier, a minimum cancellation charge of 20% of the value of the goods may apply.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
7. Storage of goods
If goods are stored for more than 14 days, the full balance must be paid.
Any goods not collected, delivered or fitted within 28 days may be subject to a storage charge.
If goods are left uncollected for an extended period, we may contact you to arrange collection, delivery or fitting. Further charges may apply for continued storage.
8. Delivery dates and fitting times
We will make reasonable efforts to meet agreed delivery and fitting dates.
Delivery and fitting dates are given in good faith, but they are not guaranteed. Delays can occasionally happen due to circumstances outside our control, including supplier delays, transport issues, staff illness, weather, accidents, traffic, breakdowns, fire, flood, strikes or other events beyond our reasonable control.
We are not responsible for losses caused by reasonable delays, but we will do our best to keep you informed and rearrange as soon as possible.
9. Access and preparation before fitting
Before fitting takes place, you must ensure that rooms are ready and accessible.
Unless agreed otherwise, rooms must be cleared of furniture and old flooring before the fitter arrives.
If furniture needs to be moved, this must be agreed in advance. Furniture moving may be available for an extra charge.
We are not responsible for damage caused when moving furniture if the furniture is fragile, unstable, already damaged, overloaded, or unsuitable to move safely.
10. Pipes, wires and underfloor services
It is your responsibility to tell us and the fitter about any pipes, wires, cables or services under the floor before fitting begins.
Carpet Mill and its fitters cannot be held responsible for damage to hidden pipes, wires or cables where we have not been made aware of them.
If any underfloor services are present, please tell us before fitting is arranged.
11. Doors
We are not responsible for cutting doors (door cutting may be available for an extra charge depending on the fitter)
If new flooring affects the clearance of a door, you will need to arrange for a suitable tradesperson to trim or adjust the door.
12. Existing flooring and subfloors
Subfloors must be suitable for the flooring being installed.
If issues are discovered with the subfloor, such as damp, uneven areas, damaged boards, loose tiles, poor previous fitting, contamination, or unsuitable surfaces, additional preparation work may be required.
We will let you know where possible if further work or charges are needed.
We cannot be responsible for problems caused by unsuitable subfloors, existing flooring, damp, poor ventilation, hidden defects or issues that could not reasonably be seen before fitting.
13. Carpet fitting and workmanship
Although your fitting contract may be with the fitter, Carpet Mill aims to ensure that fitting work is carried out to a good standard.
If you have a concern about the quality of fitting or workmanship, please contact us as soon as possible so we can look into the issue.
Concerns should be raised promptly and, where possible, before the room is heavily used or furniture is moved back into place.
14. Claims and complaints
Please inspect your goods and fitting as soon as possible.
If you believe there is a problem with the goods or fitting, please contact us promptly and provide details of the issue.
Where a manufacturing fault is suspected, claims may need to be assessed by the manufacturer, supplier or an independent inspector.
Claims relating to visible issues should be reported before the goods are cut, fitted or heavily used wherever possible.
This does not affect your statutory rights.
15. Manufacturer guarantees
Some carpets, vinyls, laminates and flooring products may come with a manufacturer’s guarantee.
Manufacturer guarantees are provided by the manufacturer and may be subject to their own terms, conditions, exclusions and time limits.
Guarantees may not cover:
- Incorrect cleaning
- Misuse
- Wear and tear
- Damage caused after fitting
- Damage from pets, furniture, spillages or staining
- Problems caused by unsuitable subfloors
- Issues caused by incorrect maintenance
Please ask us if you would like details of any manufacturer guarantee that applies to your chosen product.
16. Colour, samples and appearance
We make every effort to supply goods that match samples as closely as possible. However, slight colour and shade variations can occur between samples and the goods supplied.
This can happen due to dye batch differences, manufacturing tolerances, lighting, screen displays, and natural variation in materials.
For this reason we recommend that you please view your chosen flooring in person before ordering.
17. Pattern matching and joins
Where patterned carpets, striped carpets or flooring with a repeated design are fitted, we will take reasonable care to match the pattern as closely as possible.
However, exact pattern matching cannot always be guaranteed due to manufacturing tolerances, room shape, subfloor conditions, fitting requirements or the nature of the product.
Some joins may be visible, especially in larger rooms, awkward room shapes, patterned products or where multiple pieces are required.
18. Shading, pile pressure and flattening
Carpets, especially carpets with a pile, may show shading, light and dark patches, pressure marks or pile reversal after use.
This can be caused by foot traffic, furniture, vacuuming, lighting, room layout and the natural movement of the pile.
This effect is common in pile carpets and is not normally considered a manufacturing fault.
19. Waste and offcuts
Please ask at the time of order if you would like to keep any offcuts.
Disposal of old flooring, waste, packaging or offcuts may be available for an additional charge if agreed in advance.
If disposal has not been agreed, waste and offcuts may be left at the property.
20. Customer measurements
If you provide your own measurements, you are responsible for making sure they are accurate.
Carpet Mill is not responsible for shortages, excess goods or fitting issues caused by incorrect measurements supplied by the customer.
We recommend using our FREE measuring service wherever possible.
21. Commercial work
For commercial flooring work, additional terms may apply depending on the size, location, access requirements and nature of the project.
Commercial customers should ensure that all site requirements, access arrangements, safety requirements and deadlines are discussed before placing an order.
22. Liability
We will take reasonable care when supplying goods and arranging services.
We are not responsible for:
- Delays caused by circumstances outside our control
- Hidden defects in subfloors or existing flooring
- Damage to hidden pipes, cables or wires that were not disclosed
- Damage caused by furniture that is unsuitable or unsafe to move
- Normal wear and tear
- Natural carpet shading, pile pressure or colour variation
- Problems caused by misuse, poor maintenance or incorrect cleaning
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
23. Changes to these Terms and Conditions
We may update these Terms and Conditions from time to time.
The version published on our website will apply at the time you place your order, unless otherwise agreed in writing.
